Ossett Brewery was founded in 1998 by former Tetley brewer Bob Lawson in a small brewpub behind The Brewers in Ossett. Today, it’s grown into a major regional player, brewing over 50,000 barrels annually, employing more than 650 people, and operating roughly 32 branded pubs across Yorkshire—and beyond via national distribution and supermarket listings
They’ve made a name for themselves with award-winning core beers like Silver King, Excelsius, and Yorkshire Blonde, alongside favorites such as White Rat and the dark, flavour-packed Voodoo stout. In addition, they’ve spun off a creative microbrewing wing – Rat Brewery – famous for “distinctive, extreme, intensely hopped” beers that started under The Rat & Ratchet pub.
Visitors can take guided tours of the brewery, enjoy tutored tastings in the Taproom, or browse and buy beers from the onsite shop.
Their pubs range from historic, cosy hubs to converted gems – like The Fox in York and the Brewer’s 1841 – each infused with character and community appeal.
