Kelham Island Brewery is one of Sheffield’s most storied independent breweries, originally founded in 1990 by the late Dave Wickett on Alma Street — the first brewery to open in the city in a century. After facing closure in 2022, the brewery was rescued by a group of passionate Sheffielders who have since worked to honour Wickett’s legacy while steering it towards a new chapter. Their Pale Rider remains one of the most celebrated ales in British craft brewing, winning CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain in 2004.
