Birra Messina is an iconic Sicilian beer brand with roots stretching back to 1923 in the city of Messina. Originally founded by the Lo Presti‑Faranda family, the brewery became part of the Heineken Group in 1988. Today, the historic Messina plant is run by a cooperative of 15 former workers who revived local brewing traditions.

Birra Messina offers a range of beers but is perhaps best known for its smooth, golden lager (around 4.7% ABV) that combines dry cereal notes with gentle bitterness. One standout variant is Messina Cristalli di Sale, which features salt crystals from the Trapani salt pans, adding a soft mineral edge to the beer.
